DESCRIPTION

Now that you’ve mastered the fundamentals of classical ballet taught by Finis Jhung in Barrework Levels 1 and 2, you’ve gained a basic understanding of how to balance your positions and movements, so you’re ready to take your first steps in center floor with Finis and Kelley Waddell of The American Ballet Theatre.

These exercises will show you how to move with the purity, musical precision, and energy that define the essence of classical ballet dancing. Each exercise is first shown and explained by Finis, danced by Kelley, analyzed and discussed, and then repeated by Kelley. You’ll notice that Finis constantly reminds Kelley to stretch out her supporting shoulder and arm in order to balance her movements. You’ll learn the principles of opposition as well as the minute details of execution that make the difference in the way you feel and look. Welcome to the 21st century!

CUSTOMER COMMENTS

“I wanted to let you know that 4 of my students were chosen to dance with the Moscow Ballet Company when they performed The Nutcracker in Gillette, WY. The master ballet director, Olga, chose my students out of hundreds of children who auditioned because of their technique. Their technique is outstanding because I teach them what I have learned from you in your videos. The ‘how and the why’ makes all the difference in the world. Thank you again for sharing your ‘pearls of wisdom’ so we are better ballet instructors for our students. You are so gracious in your corrections. The words you choose and your tone of voice are very soothing and uplifting to the student— ‘you are the student, I know you can do this, and I’m going to show you how.’ I love way you break the movement into physics. I can correct someone, let them practice, and before they go home they have conquered their biggest fear such as turns. They get it!

"I am so grateful for your incredible videos. I have been using this video with my adult class and have seen tremendous results. My students are finally starting to look like dancers!" - Jo Wiseman, Teacher, Albuquerque, NM

"I love all the videos I ordered. I can already see improvements in my students. Keep up the great work, and keep the videos coming!" - Lisa DuBois, Center Stage Dance Studio, Battle Creek, MI

"Both my young students and adults get so much out of all your little tips. I so appreciate your breaking everything down - now I know why everyone says you're so special!" - Christine Batruk, The First Act, South Amboy, NJ

"This video is terrific! It is loaded with valuable teaching ideas and great choreography. It is full of new and helpful information that makes my job as a teacher much easier, and it ideal for the Advanced Beginner student who wants a challenging workout." - Beverly Spell, The Ballet Studio, Milton, LA

"Awesome! It is user friendly, accessible, clear, the dancer is lovely, and it is both process and result oriented, which is great." - Jen Danby, Professional Actor, NYC, NY

"I'd like to give you my perspective on your DVDs, which I regard as the most powerful learning tools available to today's ballet student.

Although I deeply appreciate the teacher's corrections in my weekly adult ballet class, I feel that I'm able to learn more when I work solo with your DVDs. The problem is that when I'm in class and watch the demonstrations of the barrework and center work, my inability to remember the movements still throws me into a low-key panic. Because of my poor memory, I need movement models to follow, so I still have to find a place at the barre between two more competent dancers. Since I'm following rather than initiating the movements, I end up feeling like a failure as the class moves on to the next exercise and the demonstration once again throws me into a low-key panic.

On your DVDs, each exercise is thoroughly previewed before being demonstrated, which helps address my learning limitations. What I find even better, though, is the rewind/replay option the DVDs provide. If I'm not happy with the quality of my movement, I can take as much time as I need to practice it, and to refine it. On the other hand, since there's no rewind/replay option in a live class, I rarely attain the satisfaction of a decent level of mastery. In short, your DVDs allow the luxury of self-pacing, which, for me at least, is the key to success." - Ian Jackson, developer of the Acousticoaching™ CDs for the ballet-inspired BreathPlay System -- the power behind Olympic medals, world records, and world championships.
