FINIS COACHES BILLY ELLIOT!
Finis Jhung has been involved with Billy Elliot: The Musical since production began in New York City in 2008. Nora Brennan, children's casting director and a former Jhung student recommended him to Peter Darling, the choreographer who then asked Finis to teach the Broadway and future Billys on a regular basis. In addition, Finis trained the three new Chicago Billys during their 6-week NY rehearsal period (see video). Since each Billy class is only an hour, Finis gives an intense warm-up followed by exercises which will enable the boys to perform the challenging turns and jumps they must perform in the show. Since the role of Billy is extremely demanding, Finis makes sure the boys work correctly so they will strengthen their feet, legs and body and avoid injury. So far, so good!

When Finis Jhung teaches ballet to the boys of Billy Elliot: The Musical he uses material from the videos shown on this page. Since the class is only an hour long, Finis begins with The Center Floor Ballet Warm-up. For turns and jumps, Finis uses exercises and teaching techniques from The Art of Teaching Turns, Pirouette Class 1, The Art of Teaching Jumps and The Male Ballet Dancer. Finis constantly emphasizes that in order to perfect their turns and jumps while building strength to avoid injury, each boy must learn the proper mechanics of the demi-plié and, most of all, correctly demonstrate the fondu-relevé as taught in The Power Barre and Get on Your Leg & Dance!
